SOUTH Essex Gymnastics Club (SEGC) have agreed an exciting hook-up with free-running specialists Dream Through Movement (DTM).
It will see SEGC continuing to host midweek Freestyle Gymnastics classes alongside DTM, while the parkour experts spread the word about the sport to their legions of social media fans.
SEGC spokesman Dave Massam said: “This style of gymnastics has really caught the imagination and has been taken up by British Gymnastics.
“A few of the lads in the DTM group started here as gymnasts and it’s great to see them doing so well.
“They are the perfect partners for us in this area and we look forward to working with them.”
The DTM team have put on displays of acrobatics and urban stunts across the world, and have featured in music videos, films and TV shows.
They came together in 2010 and have a background in gymnastics, which was gained at the South Essex club.
And since then, Essex-boys Connor Stringer, Alex Tucker, Matt Smith, Liam Pilcher and Brad Pearman have built up a cult following on the streets of the county and become an internet hit on YouTube.
Connor said: “It’s a great sport and something we are very passionate about.
“So it’s great to be working with South Essex, where I started out as a gymnast when I was 16.
“I’d recommend trying it in the gym first before trying it on the street.
“My message to anyone who wants to take it up is to get in touch with us.”
South Essex Gymnastics Club run evening Freestyle Gymnastics classes for juniors on Mondays and Wednesdays, and for adults on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, or to book, call 01268 722479.
