IT WAS a great weekend for everyone at South Essex Gymnastics Club at the British Championships – but it was extra special for club stalwart Jeff Davis.
Jeff, who has been an integral part of the coaching set-up at the club for over two decades, was one of for SEGC members who was a judge at the event in Liverpool.

He joined Dave Massam, David Rapley and Matt Jackson on the judging panel at the Echo Arena.
All were treated to a great spectacle with SEGC’s Max Whitlock retaining his British title, and club-mates Anthony Wise, Reiss Beckford, Brinn Bevan and Jay Thompson also impressing.
And it proved the perfect present for Jeff – who celebrated his 60th birthday on Monday.
SEGC’s head coach Scott Hann said: “Jeff was the old head coach of the gym years ago when I was a gymnast.
“He is an ex-Olympian himself. And the club would not be here if it wasn’t for Jeff.
“What is happening now is part of his legacy. And I know he is proud of everything we have done.
“In fact all of us (Dave Massam, David Rapley and Matt Jackson) are ex-gymnasts and are now running the club.
“So I am sure that is something Jeff is rightly proud of the success on the weekend and it would have been a great 60th birthday present for him.”
