MORE than 300 of South Essex’s recreational stars competed for honours at the club’s sixth annual Gym School competition.
Gymnasts aged four to 15 showed off their skills on floor, vault and trampoline – with an advanced option for older children – at the all-day event on Saturday, April 11.
A crowd of about 200 watched the performances which were honed in the eight weeks leading up to the event at the Basildon Sporting Village.
Winners got a trophy with medals for second and third and ribbons for those who came fourth, fifth and sixth.
The day was made extra special by South Essex’s senior gymnasts Reece Beckford, Jay Thompson and Brinn Bevan, who helped with the judging and presentations.
Event organiser Leah Hickton said: “It was another terrific day for us and demonstrated just how well our recreational gymnasts are doing here.
“These are gymnasts who come here once a week and this was a chance for them to show their families and friends what they have been working on.”
The Gym School students will next be showing off their skills on a display day at the Sporting Village on Saturday, July 11.
