South Essex Gymnastics Club to close from Monday, March 23, in response to coronavirus

SEGC Director of Coaching Scott Hann has this evening (March 19) released the following statement in regards to the coronavirus crisis:

As a result of the government’s decision to close schools until further notice, and the fact that we take our social responsibility very seriously, we have made the decision to close the club to all members from Monday (March 23).

As this is an ever changing situation we are having to adapt and evolve almost daily.

We will do all we can to get back to business as normal but I am sure you agree that the safety to our staff, members, community and country must come first.

We have committed to pay our staff as normal through the month of closure, and we also want to support our members through this testing period. The message from the club is, “Let’s work together”.

For all of our recreational members we will not require you to pay your fees in April, and we hope to be back in action on the April 27.

However, we want to offer the opportunity to continue to pay as normal to help us make it through this testing time.

In return, when we reopen, anyone who has continued to pay their fees, will benefit from special training sessions in our elite gym with some of SEGC’s top coaches.

We will run courses, sessions, clinics and activities until those who have supported us receive all of the tuition they have paid for, and more. This will be our way of saying thank you for your support.

Should you decide to not continue with your April payment, please email our administration team at office@southessexgym.co.uk confirming this by Wednesday, March 25. Should this closure need to be extended, we will update you on further options.

The Recreational classes affected include:

  • Gym School and advanced Gym School
  • Pre-School and advanced Pre-School
  • One-hour Rhythmic Recreational
  • Circus

For all other areas of the club we aim to get back to business as quickly as possible and ask you to contact us should you have any questions or concerns during this testing time.

While this is a worrying time for everyone, I am confident we will all get through this and be back even stronger than before.

Please keep a look out for our motivational videos, fitness challenges and advice around staying healthy in the coming weeks.

And please sure you follow us on our Facebook page (which you can find by clicking here), on Instagram (@southessexgymofficial) and Twitter (@SEGCtweets). Those social media channels will be the best way to stay up to date with developments at SEGC,to send in your videos, and to keep us all connected.

Let’s make this worrying time as positive as we possibly can,  #beatcoronavirus, and STICK by your gym!

As one of our top male gymnasts Brinn Bevan likes to say, “Tough times don’t last, tough people do.”

Thanks for your continued support,
Scott Hann MBE.
