SOUTH ESSEX’S Rhythmic girls won bronze medals at the Club Team Championships in Stoke – and received their medals from Olympic stars Max Whitlock and coach Scott Hann.
The club were initially placed fifth in the competition at Fenton Manor but were later upgraded to third after a review of the results.
It meant they did not receive their medals on the day but it was made up to them when Rio 2016 champion Max and Great Britain coach Scott instead presented the prizes in front of a big crowd at SEGC’s annual Gymnanza show on December 10.
Head of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Verity Adams, said: “It was a nice way to recognise the achievements of our gymnasts who performed very well at the competition.
“We had 24 girls competing over the weekend at Fenton Manor and they all did very well and rounded off another successful year for the club.”
Round 3 of the Group League also took place at the venue over the weekend on November 26 and 27, where Assistant Head of Women’s Artistic & Rhythmic Gymnastics Rebecca Bunce was also in attendance.
The Junior Group also trialled for the Junior European Championships and just missed out on the top two qualification places by finishing third.
