TWO Junior teams from SEGC roared each other on to some eye-catching displays on the club’s long-awaited return to the Women’s Artistic Team Championships in September.
The club entered one group in the national squad category and one in the non-national squad category at the event at Surrey Sports Park on the weekend of September 14-15.
It was the first time in over a decade that SEGC had entered the annual event, and Head of Women’s Artistic, Ross Falsetta, was delighted with their performances.
He said: “Our non-national squad team competed on day one and did so well, with some extremely mature performances from a team made up of all Espoirs, so not even junior age yet.
“They were rewarded by coming eighth out of 19 teams – a very impressive performance from a very young team.
“Our second team competed on day two in the national squad category. The girls were in round one of two and held their position until the end of the day, managing to beat Wales to second, which is a huge achievement as a club.
“The girls all did a fantastic job and showed really team support for one another, often cheering louder than the audience.
“This was something we worked on in the club so that the girls felt unified and not intimidated in what is one of the biggest competitions of the year for the women’s programme in British gymnastics.”
