Ellie and Halle impress at British Espoir Championships

SEGC Artistic duo Ellie Gargett and Halle Hilton (pictured) produced impressive displays to end their seasons well at the British Espoir Championships at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

It was Ellie’s debut at the event and an ankle injury meant she could only compete on bars, where she finished 11th.

Women’s Artistic Head Coach, Ross Falsetta, said: “With hard work and commitment, Ellie managed to place 11th in the country on this apparatus with a confidently performed basic routine.

“And she also overcome her competitive nerves, which have worked against her in the past.”

Halle, who joined SEGC in 2017, was last year’s Espoir British champion so had a lot of expectation on her shoulders.

But her hopes were tempered by the fact she arrived with a back and toe injury.

Ross added: “Halle’s competitive nature shone through from start to finish and she battled her way to fourth in the all-around competition, missing out on third by just 0.1 of a mark, and qualifying for all four apparatus finals the following day.

“Due to her sore back we chose to only do three pieces on the Sunday and this seemed to be a smart move as she walked away with bronzes on vault and floor and silver on beam.

“This was a lovely finish to the competitive year for all the WAG girls and hopefully we will continue with similar success into 2018.”
