Volunteer coaching opportunity for parents at SEGC’s Gym School

SEGC is opening the door for parents to try their hand at volunteer coaching within its popular Gym School classes.

It will be an opportunity to work alongside the club’s qualified staff at the one-hour weekday sessions, which take place during different time slots between 4pm and 8pm.

Dave Rapley, the club’s Recreational Manager, said: “We are looking for parents of children in our squad groups who may already be at the gym and would like to invest some time into volunteer coaching.

“And we hope it could lead to some of them working their way up to taking British Gymnastic coaching qualifications.

“We will have our team of qualified coaches helping and guiding the new volunteers every step of the way.

“And our head coaches will always be in the gym to provide feedback, mentor and be a designated mentor coach if they progress to a coaching course in the future.

“This is an opportunity which would ideally suit squad parents as they may already be here during their child’s training hours, but it not exclusively an offer to them.

“We’re happy for people to volunteer as much or little time as they want and won’t be relying on them being here week in week out.

“They would be great support staff and – if they enjoy it – they can take it further with a coaching course if they choose to do so.”
