SOUTH ESSEX showed a stunning improvement in its medal haul at the annual NDP Regional Grades competition.
For the past two years the club has gone home with two medals from the event in Colchester – this year it was 13!
SEGC sent 25 artistic female gymnasts aged between eight and 15 (some pictured above) to showcase skills between Grades 1-6 – and all passed in their respective categories.
There was also a rare one, two, three at Grade 5, age nine level. Coach Jade Burley’s girls monopolised the podium with Sarah Coker first, Eve Page second, and Charlotte Cassidy third.
And there was an eye-catching debut at club level for Kristi Mia Walker. The nine-year-old won the silver medal in her first competition since making the step up from recreational gymnastics.
Leah Hickton, South Essex women’s head coach, said: “We saw that Kristi had the potential to move up to club grades and to come second out of 23 shows that she has the right skills.
“But I’m so proud of all the girls and all the coaches because to come home with 13 medals shows just how much progress we have made over this past year.”
