SOUTH ESSEX head coach Scott Hann says Reiss Beckford is a “spectacular gymnast” but has challenged him to find consistency.
The 22-year-old from Enfield is one of a number of the clubs stars with a genuine chance of breaking through for Great Britain ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics.
He claimed an all-around silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and will be hoping to push himself into contention to represent England again at this year’s event in Glasgow.
Hann says Beckford has all the potential to make it to the top – if he can find a way to routinely score big on all apparatus when it really matters.
Hann said: “Reiss was up and down at the British Championships, but he is still a spectacular gymnast to watch.
“His routines are explosive and dynamic and they are great crowd pleasers. But with that comes risk.
“I’m sure when he hits he is going to hit big. But the question is – when is he going to hit big? I’m sure it will be soon.
“So there were some positives and negatives from Reiss.
“But he made a final and got a bronze on the floor so he showed he can compete at that level.”
