SEGC’S Head of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Ross Falsetta was full of praise for the club’s girls at the 2017 Regional In-Age Voluntary competition this month.
Elise Adeyemo, Sophie Goodman and Sienna Goodwin all claimed podium places at the event at Pipers Vale, Ipswich, on Sunday, September 24.
Ross said: “Elise made her competition comeback for this year and is still tackling a leg injury which meant she only competed on bars.
“But she did so well with a clean routine which placed her third in the Espoir Challenge category.
“Sophie did bars and beam. She took a bad fall in training during Friday evening’s training session, bashing her leg which was rather battered and bruised still on Sunday morning.
“With that in mind she battled through beam, only down grading her dismount to make the landing easier to handle. And she scored 12.6 to win the gold in the Senior Challenge category.
“On bars she had a big new skill which she used in competition for the first time and handled it really well to secure third place.”
Jade Burley’s Pre-Development group also competed well, as did Sienna, who booked a place on the team which will represent the East region at the national championships in November.
Senior coach Leah Whitlock said: “Sienna competed at Level 3 and was crowned overall champion, winning by over a mark.
“She also came first on vault, bars and floor and came second on beam. It was another great competition for her.”
There was also lots of silverware for the club at the Level 4 & 3 (Out of Age) County Championships in Colchester on September 17.
And there was success for SEGC at the County In-Age Championships and Teddy Bear Challenge in Colchester on September 10.
