WOMEN’S Artistic Head Coach Leah Hickton was delighted with a terrific couple of months for South Essex’s emerging crop of stars.

Hickton has overseen huge progress for the club’s female gymnasts since being appointed to the top coaching role at SEGC in 2015.

And she saw the latest round of success as many progressed from East region qualifiers in Ipswich in April before winning titles at the Compulsory Levels (Elite Grades) finals in Stoke in early May.

South Essex’s Paige Moroney, Ellie Petroiu and Violet Manser were all part of the East team crowned Compulsory Level 3 champions by five marks in Stoke on May 8.

Ellie also picked up her fourth individual British title as she won the Compulsory Level 3 title, with Paige picking up the bronze and Violet placing seventh.

Sienna Goodwin took home an individual silver at Compulsory Level 4 and also helped the East team to a bronze medal at that level.

Hickton said: “We had girls qualify for national finals at all levels we entered as a club in April and that was great to see.

“In National Grade 1 in Ipswich we also had Sophie Goodman finishing third, and at National Grade 4 we had Charlotte Cassidy in second – just missing out on first by 0.150.

“They will now represent the East team in the National Grades finals in Stoke on May 21 and 22.”
