Doug Turnbull crowned pommel champion after PB at Pegasus Open

DOUGLAS TURNBULL continued his fine start to the season by being crowned the Under-16 pommel champion at the Gymnova Pegasus Open.

The 14-year-old won a senior bronze high-bar medal on his international debut in Portugal in May  and followed up with a gold at this month’s top event in Maidstone, Kent.

Douglas was targeting a score of about 75.000 on the pommel horse but easily beat that with 77.150 for a new personal best.

South Essex’s Assistant Director of Coaching Matt Jackson, who trains Douglas, said: “Doug smashed it in this competition and fully deserved his win.

“And he was competed against his best rival piers from across the country, so it really was a terrific result.”
